BIOGRAPHY

After serving time in the Navy and then following that up with a University Arts Degree Bob turned to his first love music in 1982 and quickly gained strong support throughout Canberra and surrounding New South Wales major country towns.  Over the following years Bob worked the local Canberra club circuit at night during the week, and toured each weekend to major country clubs. He performed to a wide range of audiences on the South Coast and inland clubs such as Wagga Wagga, Aussie Rules and Wagga Leagues Clubs, and a number of RSL, Workman’s and Bowls clubs in Gundagai, Young, Merimbula, Bateman’s Bay, Nowra  Goulburn, and surrounding towns.

In 1987 his work with the Navy took him to America to work in Crystal City and he lived in Virginia for three years. During this time he performed on the East Coast, represented Australia in the Bi-centennial celebrations and performed for the opening of Koala Blue shops for Olivia Newton John.

A number of  Americans would remember him for his WAMU Washington DC live radio broadcast of “No 96 to the Snack Bar Please” and the Aussie slang list he handed out to his audiences before each show.

In 1990 he returned to Australia and continued his solo work and also formed the very popular Canberra band “Bob Mildren and the Good Old Boys”.  Bob and the Boys performed regularly at clubs, country festivals and major functions in the Region such as the Normie Rowe Inaugural Vietnam Veterans Concert along with many great stars from the Vietnam era. The band was also a regular pub and club act at Tamworth Country Music Festival.  During this time he also continued his solo work and in this capacity he was support act for Lee Kernaghan following Lee’s first Golden Guitar and early days of stardom.

In  January 1997 Bob came to Brisbane with the Commonwealth Government as Queensland Manager Disposals and continued his solo performances at nights and weekends.  He quickly became a popular artist in many Brisbane clubs including his local club, the Redlands RSL, where he has performed twice a month for almost 22 years.

In 2006 Bob retired from his Government position and also night shows and began concentrating on day-time and “seniors” performances throughout major clubs in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Bob has released 3 albums which receive regular airplay by community radio stations throughout Australia and New Zealand.
